So let's skip to the day of the concert (Sunday, July 20th), well it didn't start out great, for one I had to wake up at 4:30 am, and I couldn't fall asleep in the car. WE arrived at Quebec city at around 9:30 am, we found parking, then arrived at the waiting area at 10 am. There was already a crowd but we moved further down the gates and only ended up having two people in front of us. However there was like 7 of these jerks behind us, I swear there wasn't two seconds they weren't talking, and even through there was a garbage can just two feet away they had to throw all their trash on the ground. Talk about pigs. When they opened the gates we were relived, after spending 7 hours with those jerks we were going to make sure they weren't anywhere near us for the concert. Despite the fact they said they were going to check our bags they didn't, as soon as they opened the gates everyone ran, it was crazy, it looked like a opening scene from A hard day's night . We ended up being further back then we expected but were still only 50 meters away! At one point my dad said "hey, if you think we've got a bad spot look behind you." I did and all I saw was thousands of people stretched as far as the eye could see.
So the first opening act was The Stills, they were good, I liked a few of their songs, but they weren't exactly my cup of tea. Half the time I was waiting looking at the screen waiting to see a shot from the drummer, who made spazzy faces that made him look like a physco path on crack, bad combo, insane people and crack don't mix. The second opening act was Pascale Picard Band, I was really surprised because the only song I heard from her was Gate 22, so I thought she was like Norah Jones-esque. But no she was more like a more punk less pop and mainstream version of Avril Lavigne. I found she screamed the lyrics a little more than she needed to. But I did like the songs gate 22 and smilin'.
Now for the main act, Sir Paul Mccartney! His show was the most exciting, enjoyable, enthralling, unforgetable 2 and a half hours of my life. He played 36 songs without taking one single break. I couldn't believe it, the guy is like 65, 66 and here he is playing over 2 hours without a break, I don't even think he had one sip of water during the show.
At many times the crowd was ecstatic, so was I, screaming and singing along even though my mouth was so dry. He dedicated three songs
something to George Harrison
Day in the life/give peace a chance to John Lennon
& my love to his no longer living wife, Linda Mccartney.
I actually cried a bit during Day In The Life, I guess because I realized how hard it must have been on Paul and the other remaining beatles to loose such a close friend of theirs like that, & my dad made a good point, why does it seem that everyone who tries to make the world a better place ends up getting shot? Just think about it, John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Gandhi, John Lennon all killed.
well I'm going to stop it there. I could go on but I don't want to bore you all.
All in all I spent 18.5 hours worth of combined driving (both ways) and waiting, and I went 14 hours without using the bathroom, I had to, we just simply couldn't use them, it was impossible to get there, and even if you did you would lose your spot.
